"The Medium" & "The Old Maid and the Thief," Operas by Gian Carlo Menotti

In celebration of Gian Carlo Menotti’s one hundredth birthday celebration, the George Washington University Department of Music will present Menotti’s two one-act operas, The Medium and The Old Maid and the Thief on April 15 and 16 at 7:30 pm in Hand Chapel at the Mt. Vernon campus. Donations will be accepted at the door. THE MEDIUM is the tale of Madame Flora (Baba) a charlatan medium who uses her daughter Monica and a mute gypsy boy, Toby, to assist her in her frauds. The seeming occurrence of a true visitation upsets her schemes and destroys her family. The cast consists of students and alumni of The George Washington University, including Caitlyn Reilly (Baba), Jenna Papaz (Monica), Alex Thomas (Toby), as well as Andre Smith, Maya Golan, and Jenna Gilbert. THE OLD MAID AND THE THIEF explores the collapse of the life of a middle-aged spinster, Miss Todd, as she and her young maid are brought under the spell of a charming but dangerous escaped criminal. The cast consists of students and alumni of The George Washington University, including Camille Dierksheide (Ms. Todd), Emily Olmsted (Laetitia), Michael Noel (Bob), and Gabriella Demczuk.
