Corcoran Chamber Music Institute

A D.C. Music Summer Camp

(formerly the GW Summer Piano and Chamber Music Institute)

July 17-28, 2017

The George Washington University's Corcoran Chamber Music Institute invites middle, high school and college students to study with the Aeolus Quartet and esteemed guest artists from outside the university. The Institute immerses students in a rigorous piano and strings chamber music curriculum at the university level, leaving them with a motivational and inspirational musical experience they will not soon forget.

Unique among musical programs in the Washington, D.C. area, the Institute places many of its students in ensembles in which resident faculty coach, rehearse, and perform side by side with the students. Students will also cap off their Institute experience performing a concert ensemble works with these artists of international performing caliber.

The Corcoran Chamber Music Institute is offered as a two-week learning experience for students of multiple skill levels. Faculty expose pupils to the focused life of a serious student of music, while nurturing and improving upon current music skills. More advanced students who are considering the study of music at the university level work with faculty to improve current technique and performing abilities, while receiving guidance on the next stage of the musical journey.

The Institute provides a carefully structured curriculum from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., including a variety of musical activities over the course of the program.  Students will have:

  • lessons with our resident faculty,
  • scheduled, monitored practice time,
  • observed rehearsal time for ensemble repertoire,
  • coaching sessions,
  • studio and master classes,
  • concerts by faculty and outside guests.

Featuring Chamber Music Recitals for Students and the greater DC community

The Institute includes concerts from our talented faculty/artists and students that are open to the entire D.C. community. During our 2015 and 2016 Institutes, students and faculty artists performed on The Kennedy Center's Millennium stage, as well as the Corcoran School of the Arts and Design's Hammer Auditorium.
